Master’s in Healthcare Administration Programs in Florida

Five Florida universities currently offer a graduate degree in health administration, although several other universities with campuses located in the state of Florida offer online graduate health administration degree programs. Generally, a Master of Health Administration degree takes about two years to complete; however, the timeframe depends on a student's courseload and if he or she has completed previous graduate coursework in the field of health administration.

Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton offers a Master of Health Administration degree and an Executive Master of Health Administration degree. Both programs accept students with undergraduate degrees in any discipline. The Executive MHA degree does not require the GRE or GMAT test but does require applicants to have a minimum of four years work experience. This program can usually be completed in 15 months.

The Master of Health Administration degree does not require work experience but does require students to submit GRE or GMAT scores for admission and requires an internship. This program is self-paced, and students may take classes on weekends or online. The university offers merit-based financial aid as well as two scholarships for health administration students.

The University of Florida in Gainesville offers a Master of Health Administration as well as a dual MBA/MHA program. To be admitted to the Master of Health Administration program, an applicant must have an undergraduate degree, which can be in any discipline, a cumulative 3.0 GPA for the last two years of the student's undergraduate studies, three letters of recommendation, and either a combined GRE score of 300 or a GMAT score of 500. Undergraduate coursework in finance, economics, and statistics is also encouraged. The Master of Health Administration program is a two-year program.

The University of North Florida in Jacksonville also offers both a Master of Health Administration degree and a dual MBA/MHA degree. Admission requirements include GMAT/GRE scores that are less than two years old, two letters of recommendation, a resume, and a personal statement. Students may join the Health Administration Student Association or the Upsilon Phi Delta honor society.

Florida A&M University in Tallahassee offers a Master of Science in Health Administration degree. Admission requirements are either a 3.0 GPA or a GRE score of 1000, a resume, three letters of recommendation, and an autobiographical essay. Applicants may also be interviewed. This program primarily meets during the evenings on weekdays to meet the needs of working professionals.

The University of South Florida in Tampa offers a Master of Health Administration degree. Undergraduate degrees in life sciences, social sciences, business, or healthcare are preferred although not required; however, undergraduate microeconomics and accounting courses are prerequisites. Work experience is also preferred. Admission requirements include a GPA of 3.0 for the last 60 hours of undergraduate study, or GRE scores above the recommended 50th percentile, or a minimum GMAT score of 500. A supervised field experience is a requirement for the MHA degree at South Florida.
