Healthcare administrators in Arkansas earned an average annual salary of $89,700 per year in 2020 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. A Master of Healthcare Administration may provide a career opportunity if you are looking to enter this rewarding and growing field.

Arkansas has two schools that are options for those wishing to obtain this degree on campus. The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, located in Little Rock, offers a Master’s of Health Administration that can be completed in 21 months by attending as a full-time student. The school does offer a part-time option as well, where classes can be completed in the evenings. Full-time students are able to complete a paid residency program during their summer semester. The school accepts either the GMAT or the GRE for the entrance examination and also requires a statement of objectives that details an applicant’s career goals and previous work experience.

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences also offers a Master’s of Public Health (MPH) degree program that focuses on disease prevention efforts coordinated through a concentrated community outreach effort. The program offers concentrations in areas such as biostatistics, environmental and occupational health and rural public health practice. The MPH programs in Arkansas admission requirements include a score from the GRE and a statement of interest in the program along with letters of recommendations.

Some students may prefer a smaller city as opposed to the large city of Little Rock. If you are searching for a smaller campus, you may prefer Harding. Harding University is a private university located in Searcy, Arkansas, which offers a Master’s of Business Administration degree with a Healthcare Management concentration.

The program has 30 credit hours of core courses such as accounting, ethics and marketing. Twelve hours are taken in the concentration selected by the student. In addition to a GMAT or GRE score, the school also requires that a student have had leveling courses in accounting, finance, and statistics. These courses are offered online to students who have not previously taken them.

While Harding’s program can be completed in as little as 12 months, the school says that the average student takes 18 to 24 months to complete the program. Online courses are offered and are structured so that students have a large amount of interaction with instructors, like most other online master’s in healthcare administration programs.

After graduating you may find employment opportunities in a variety of settings. Hospitals, clinics and government agencies are some possible employers, as well as private agencies, pharmaceutical and insurance companies and non-profits.
