South Carolina has two Master of Health Administration (MHA) programs that are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME). CAHME is the federally approved accrediting body for healthcare administration graduate programs. The two schools provide both a residential program for full time students entering this profession and an executive program for working professionals.

The residential program of 58-62 credit hours can be completed in two years. The executive program in one university requires 54 credit hours that can be completed mostly online, supplemented by on campus weekend or evening courses. The 58-credit hour executive program at the other university offers classes in the late afternoon and evening to accommodate working students.

Besides the two accredited programs, healthcare administration at the master’s level is offered by other colleges and universities in South Carolina through online programs. The AMBA degree can be earned in an accelerated one-year program in Business Administration, which include specialized healthcare topics. Another program is offered within a College of Nursing and is an MSN degree with emphasis in Nursing Leadership and Healthcare Administration.
